Bahrain Ratifies the Kigali Amendment
Bahrain has become the 160th country to ratify the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. This makes it the second Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member to do so after the United Arab Emirates.
By ratifying the amendment, Bahrain is committing to phasing down the production and consumption of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) by 80% over the next 30 years.
Estimates suggest that global acceptance and implementation of the Kigali Amendment could prevent around 80 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050.
