Celebrating Earth Day 2025!

Every year on April 22nd, communities and industries worldwide celebrate Earth Day. Started in the USA in 1970, it has grown to become a global event recognised in 190 countries with over 150,000 partners.
Earth Day began as the result of cross-party efforts to raise awareness about the growing impact of industrial pollution on air and water. For decades, environmental protection laws were limited in scope and intent, but a series of events in the 1960s highlighted the need for urgent action.
These included Rachel Carson’s famous book, Silent Spring, and the fire on the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio. Europe experienced similar events in the 1960s and 1970s.
Since then, numerous protocols and treaties have been enacted globally to protect the planet and its resources. One significant treaty is the Montreal Protocol, a landmark multilateral agreement to phase out the use of ozone-depleting substances (ODS), including many refrigerants and fire-suppressing gases.
The Kigali Amendment was added to the Protocol in 2016 to include the phasedown of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), reducing their use by 80% over the next 30 years. HFCs are gases with a high global warming potential (GWP), which means they are significant contributors to climate change.
At A-Gas, our lifecycle refrigerant management (LRM) approach of recovering, reclaiming and supplying refrigerants reduces the potential for emissions from these gases and aligns with the goals of the Montreal Protocol.
The refrigerants we supply are reclaimed to industry-recognised AHRI 700 quality standards. That means they meet the equivalent quality standards of newly manufactured products and can be used in existing technology, enabling continued performance.

By implementing circular economy principles, we extend the lifetime of refrigerants, encouraging their recovery and reducing their potential emissions. Repurposing refrigerants can also contribute to energy-efficient solutions.
The theme for Earth Day 2025 is “Our Planet, Our Power”, with a focus on tripling renewable energy by 2030. One example of how we support businesses is through our work with West Biofuels in the USA.
After the customer experienced issues with its supply of cyclopentane, we provided it with 18,600 pounds of gas within two weeks, enabling it to power the turbines at its plant in Northern California.
Cyclopentane requires less heat and pressure to provide renewable energy, so we enabled West Biofuels to continue supplying clean energy to local ratepayers.
