Celebrating International Men's Day 2024!
International Men’s Day takes place on November 19th every year and aims to recognise the value that men bring to the world, their families and communities.
The theme for 2024 is “Strong Male Role Models”. It asks people to consider the positive male role models they have in their lives. It also encourages them to consider how they can be a positive role model to others, and raise awareness of men's physical and mental wellbeing.
To mark the occasion, we asked male colleagues from across our global regions about their role models, what it means to them and the best advice they have received as men.

Please can you tell us about a time you have been a role model for someone?
“Being a role model for my kids is about demonstrating the values and behaviours I would want them to adopt in their future. It is important to show kindness, integrity, and perseverance in my daily actions. By handling challenges with grace and treating others with respect, I teach them the importance of empathy and resilience, always try your best and I show them that actions speak louder than words. I know my kids are always watching and learning from me. By being consistent I want my children to grow and inspire them to achieve great things in their lives.”

What does being a good role model mean to you?
“To me, the first half of being a good man means being a good person. The second half is the part that most are still figuring out.
It is being strong enough to love. Loving yourself enough to be better than you were yesterday and loving others enough to inspire hope.
It is easier said than done. However, I learnt this through watching my role models, my uncles, navigate through life. Leading by example, they showed me what it meant to be a man in a time where most people diverge from their purpose.”

What is the best piece of advice you have been given about growing up as a man?
“The best pieces of advice I have received as a man are to stand firm for what you believe in and treat others with respect. This has led me to take responsibility for all of my actions and learn from my mistakes."

What qualities do you think make for a good role model?
“In my opinion, the qualities that make someone a good role model are honesty, respect, having a positive mindset, working hard and being able to take the lead, both in work and in personal lives”.
