Oman Ratifies the Kigali Amendment

Oman has become the 162nd country to ratify the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol. It is the fourth member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to do so in 2024, following the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait.

By ratifying the agreement, Oman has committed to reducing its production and consumption of HFCs by more than 80% over the next 30 years.

If the Kigali Amendment is accepted globally then it could prevent as much as 80 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide-equivalent (CO₂e) emissions by 2050.
